- “AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals”
- "It appears that America's anti-Biblical feminist movement is at last dying, thank God, and is possibly being replaced by a Christ-centered men's movement which may become the foundation for a desperately needed national spiritual awakening."
- "If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being."
- After the September 11 attacks Falwell said, “I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen."
- “Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions”
- “[Homosexuals are] brute beasts...part of a vile and satanic system [that] will be utterly annihilated, and there will be a celebration in heaven."

Hmmmmm. Let's not believe the Gospel, yet send those who disagree with us the Hell when they pass on? Where does Hell come from if not Jerry Falwell's Bible?

Yet more quotes from Fall Well's ghost:
* "How soon did you say Ted Haggard will be joining me in this dismal flames?"
* "Swedenborg was right, I had my head in heaven, but my heart in hell."
* "At least there are no pervs down here, so I can...er, never mind. They just now spotted me."
* "I stored treasures on earth, therefore no treasures exist for me in the Afterlife? Rats!"
* "Hey Jesus, I preached Your Name in the streets and churches, so whadya mean my lips honored You but my heart was far from you? That's what all the pastors are doing! Surely they can't all be wrong! Can they?"
* "I'm ready to feed the poor, cast out demons, heal the sick, comfort the suffering, resist social injustice, chastise the rich, and sell all that I own and follow You, Lord! I'm...huh? What do you mean, it's too late?"

Mixed feelings here. I loathed him with a passion, but any death is a loss for the dead person's loved ones (and yes, even Jerry Falwell had them!) Let's remember the harm he did, but at the same time, gloating about anyone's death makes US as ugly as he was in life.

I'm a christian and I still thought this guy was a false representation of what a christian is.
This guy gave anyone associated with christianity a bad name.

It's incredible to me that you don't see the sad and pathetic irony in allowing your blog to act as a platform for his message, now that he's gone. But you're not alone, even BoingBoing's guilty. WTF?!?
He's gone, and I'm not upset about it. And I'm sure as hell not going to post his thoughts all over the 'Net! No, I'm just going to forget him.
See, while 99.5% of humans see him for what he was, there's that small fraction of the population who'll agree with him, and maybe start doing so today, having just read it for the first time on your blog.
Good riddance, let's move on.

It is interesting that everyone is so terrible in the face of the death of someone else. Check the comments of Larry Flint - a person in complete opposition to Mr. Falwell. It is sad when the class of this bunch is Larry Flint.

Well, well, well. All the anti-religious haters are taking their potshots. Well, Jerry's not in hell, never will be. But most of you WILL if you don't change your ways. You have to be born again; there's no other way to Heaven, but it doesn't sound much like any of you really want to get there.

Good riddens to bad rubbish.

Yeah, I feel the same way about Hitler. Wait. No. I'm happy he's dead too.
Ummm gee. The only thing I can think to say here is that "I'm sorry that I'm happy the bastard is dead." Wait... I'm not sorry. This is so confusing...

Thanks everyone! I'm so relieved to see I'm not the only rational thinker who thinks the righteously religious are the main cause for evil and intolerance in this world. With all these fruitcake evangelicals in the white house, on the courts and just about every where else, it's nice to know I'm not a minority of one. Nevertheless, as Gandhi said, "even if you are a minority of one, the truth is still the truth." Now that the Osama Bin Laden of the Chrisitian Taliban is gone I somehow feel a big relief...too bad there's another psychotic righteous one ready to step in his shoes. Still, it's good to know one less rotten and influental turd floats around the cesspool of religious inhumanity.

I don't think there is anything worse than someone using the bible for their own personal, or political gain. Jesus didn't like it too much either:
Matthew 18:6
but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea

The worms can't eat him fast enough!
He was a complete "WOSLO" - a Waste Of Space, Life, & Oxygen".

Left wingers and atheists predictably hate anyone who believe in God, and particularly those who preach Christianity's truths.
Jerry knew how to bring it- to your face, where you cannot ignore it. I'm sure you are glad he is dead.
By Anonymous, at Wed May 16, 07:16:00 AM PDT
Too bad he didn't take a few more of those vile right wing Christionist pigs like Pat Robertson, James Dobson, and D. James Kennedy with him!
By Anonymous, at Wed May 16, 11:54:00 AM PDT
this guy drug the christian name through the mud. judgemental bastard. as a christian i do not condone or support any of the ridiculous things he said.

How can anyone talk about God's truth and Jerry Falwell in the same sentence?

Ha ha, I still have lots and lots of fools that willingly are doing my dirty work. Except they really believe the nonsense and aren't in it for the profiteering off of ignorance, suffering, and fear creation like I was, go figure. Why do you think Adam and Eve were kicked out of "paradise" when they ate from the tree of KNOWLEDGE? Religion demands ignorance and villifies intelligence and knowledge. Remember you gotta have FAITH. Ha, ha, still laughing at the suckers crooks like me fooled and I'm DEAD! Ahahahahahahahahhahahahaaaaa!

To Carl Ringwall -
Atheists don't hate Christians. They hate people who twist Christ's message of love, peace and tolerance of others into a pill-pocket for their platforms of hatred and fear.
Falwell was a man whose ugly messages catered to the fearful and self-esteem-challenged among us. Another will surely rise to replace him, unfortunately. If there is an afterlife, one can only hope he is showed where his errors lay in his now ended life.
By Marianne, at Thu May 17, 02:28:00 PM PDT
Falwell didnt hate people, he hated their actions...He wanted people to change their ways so they wouldnt have to suffer in a Devils hell. He didnt sugar coat it...He cares for these people. Falwell def could have been more gentle with his speech, but his core ideas are right on. The bible calls homosexuality an abomination, so I commend this man for trying to help these people change their lives. Hate the Sin, Not the Sinner. RIP Jerry !

Never have I been so joyed by the death of a man who exemplifies everything that is wrong with America. A hateful, manipulative bastard is no longer with us.Only if he took Bush and his cronies with him would I really be happy. Good riddens, you miserable old man.
By Anonymous, at Sun May 20, 09:20:00 AM PDT
just to look at his overweight, waspy, red-faced body gave an inclination to his pea-sized brain. how awful that people are still paying attention to narrow, boigoted people like that. Shame
By Anonymous, at Sun May 20, 10:50:00 AM PDT
May God forgive you all who criticize Christians such as Jerry Falwell, James Dobson, or anyone else who calls themselves "Born Again". Have you ever read the ten commandments or the new testament words in Red?
Jerry may not have been my choice as a preacher, but what right do we have to judge him?? If we do, than we are no better than what he has been blamed for in many of these comments.
I believe he IS with the Lord, and heard the words: "Well done good a faithful servant"
Peace and may Jesus Christ be Praised!

There is a very good website on this topic.
check out http://triviatime.awardspace.com or snipr.com/triviafun for short. It's a chat room for talking about things like religion, Falwell, spirituality, activism, Web design and java basics in English and meeting with more experienced programmers, activists, and English speekers, and it's a Java-based game also. You can earn credits for some great prizes, and it's all free! Good luck!
Once you're there, they'll direct you to some excellent resources.
