New Resources for Trans People and Allies

Our friends at National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) in partnership with our friends at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF), recently produced Opening the Door to the Inclusion of Transgender People (March 2008)- a resource guide created with the purpose of helping organizations become more transgender inclusive. This guide and many other amazing resources (such as 52 Things You Can Do for Transgender Equality and most recently, a Selective Service Resource for Transgender People), can be found on the NCTE web site under the Resource link.

NSRC recently convened an international meeting in New York, Beginning A Global Dialogue on Transgender Rights: A Meeting of the Global Dialogue on Sexual Health and Well Being, where 30 researchers, activists and policymakers began the challenging and long overdue conversation of how to work cross culturally around transgender rights and health. NSRC would like to thank NCTE and NGLTF for helping to participate in this important national and international conversation with our sister centers in Latin America, South/Southeast Asia and Africa.

Papers addressing the status of transgender rights in each of these regions will soon be published on the NSRC web site, including the U.S. based paper led by the team of Jamison Green, Paisley Currah and Susan Stryker.

These papers are not meant to be an end in and of themselves--but a beginning so that organizations and individuals can then add to and expand the dialogue nationally and internationally.
